ENS Domain Cost: Registration, Renewals and Gas

Separate the registration fee from gas, renewals and secondary-market prices.

For ENS second-level .eth names, budget for the registration period and the network transaction cost separately.

The published annual fee

The current ENS fee schedule lists $5 for names of five or more characters, $160 for four characters and $640 for three characters. Registration and renewal use the same annual fee schedule.

Gas is additional

The ENS App quotes payment in ETH on Ethereum Mainnet. Network fees vary, so a dollar registration price is not a complete checkout total. Review the live estimate for your chosen name and term.

Compare like with like

An already-owned name offered for resale has a seller's asking price. An expired name in a temporary-premium period can also have an additional cost. Neither should be confused with standard registration pricing.

For a personal shortlist, record the complete name, registration term and official checkout estimate on the same day. Recheck before purchasing.

An example budget

Suppose you are comparing two available names and intend to keep either for three years. Record the standard fee for each name's length, multiply it by the intended term, and then add the live transaction estimate. A shorter identifier can have a very different recurring cost from a longer one.

For a standard five-or-more-character name, the published annual rate produces a three-year registration component of $15. Gas is separate. This is an arithmetic example, not a live quote or an availability check.

Use a repeatable cost worksheet

  • Full name and character length.
  • Registration start and intended expiry.
  • Standard term fee.
  • Any premium or resale asking price.
  • Estimated transaction cost and the date of the quote.

What to compare over time

Keep an initial purchase budget and an ongoing maintenance budget. If you are evaluating several names for one project, a smaller number of useful identities can be easier to manage than a large collection with different expiry dates.
