Freename Royalties: Setup, Costs and Payouts

Understand Freename royalty setup, annual costs, Credits versus USDC, payout requests and the evidence to check.

Freename royalties require more than owning an extension. You need the relevant Web3 TLD, an active royalty option, qualifying customer registrations and an eligible balance. The documented withdrawal route uses the account’s Income section and a payout request. This guide follows that process while separating internal Credits from money received in a wallet.

Before you begin

Identify the TLD, annual add-ons and a real reason for customers to register before spending.

  1. 01Prepare the TLD and royalty option
  2. 02Track qualifying sales and balance type
  3. 03Request and verify the payout

Set up the right product and options

Freename’s TLD guide describes searching for an available extension, purchasing it, then opening Portfolio and Web3 TLDs to mint it to a supported wallet/network. Purchasing and minting are separate states. It also says the TLD must be public and the Royalties add-on active for qualifying external registrations to generate royalties.

The royalty option can be activated in the purchase cart or the TLD management page. Review the current order, selected term and renewal settings. The provider profile explains the difference between the extension asset and its optional annual services.

Separate the costs before judging the percentage

ItemWhat belongs in your budget
TLD acquisitionThe quote for the exact extension and selected minting/custody route.
Royalty licenseFreename advertises $99 per year and up to a 50% share of qualifying registrations. Confirm the selected order.
Reseller ToolsA separate option. The Custom Pricing guide requires it for category-price controls.
OperationsPromotion, support, transaction costs and any other tools you choose.

The advertised share is a portion of eligible registration activity, not a return on the amount you spent. No customers means no registration revenue. Write down who would use the extension and which app workflows would make it useful to them.

Read the balance by type

Freename’s Credits guide distinguishes withdrawable stablecoin royalties from internal Credits. A buyer paying with Credits can produce Credits for the TLD owner; mixed payments can produce a split balance. Credits are usable inside Freename and should not be counted as a received wallet payout.

Maintain separate columns for qualifying sales, credited stablecoin, internal Credits, withdrawal requests and confirmed receipts. Do not add them together as though they were five independent sources of income. A dashboard balance and its eventual receipt are stages of the same flow.

Follow the documented payout route

  1. Sign in through Freename’s official site and open the account area.
  2. Open Income and inspect the available royalty balance.
  3. Choose Request Payout and review the withdrawal option.
  4. The current help guide specifies USDC on Polygon. Check the full destination and its support for that token/network.
  5. Review and submit the request, then save its reference and details.
  6. Check the resulting receipt in the intended wallet rather than treating submission as settlement.

Freename’s terms describe payment to the wallet associated with the account and eligibility after applicable refund conditions. If the account association and the wallet presented by the request disagree, resolve that through official support before submitting.

Payout timing: the sources are inconsistent

The February 2026 withdrawal guide describes a request-based process and gives both 48-hour and 72-hour timings in different sections. An October 2025 blog describes immediate automatic payment. These do not establish one reliable delivery promise.

Use the current account instructions and obtain clarification for a pending request. We have not submitted a payout or verified a delivery time. The same distinction applies to older text mentioning USDT: the current withdrawal instructions specify USDC on Polygon.

A worked budget with cash and Credits

Suppose a hypothetical operator spends $500 on acquisition and $99 on the first year’s royalty service. Assume ten qualifying registrations each return $10 of withdrawable stablecoin. The modeled gross is $100, leaving $1 against that annual license alone, while the acquisition spend and other operating costs remain uncovered.

If the same activity instead creates $100 of internal Credits, confirmed wallet receipts are still $0. If no registrations occur, both modeled registration income and sale receipts are zero. These are stated assumptions, not quotes, expected sales or verified participant results.

Use the sales-hurdle calculator with the appropriate eligible receipt assumptions. Compare the work with running an ENS community namespace before selecting an earning model.

What to verify before renewing an add-on

  • Which registrations created eligible balances?
  • How much was internal credit rather than a withdrawable balance?
  • Which requests actually reached the expected wallet?
  • What acquisition and recurring costs remain unrecovered?
  • What customer need justifies another operating period?

A percentage on a product page is only one input. Keep evidence for the customer, transaction and received balance together so the decision can be reviewed.

Finished when: the relevant options and obligations are documented, balance types are separated and any requested payout is reconciled with its actual receipt.
